THE CHALLENGE
Western Digital had recently undergone a major corporate rebrand, but its 404 error page was still outdated, visually off-brand, and offered a clunky user experience.
THE SOLUTION
I led a redesign effort that aligned the tone and visuals with Western Digital’s new branding while creating a more helpful and navigable UX. We streamlined below-the-fold content, updated search functionality, and introduced engaging copy and visuals. Drawing from WDC’s strong presence in gaming, one concept—Level 404—framed the error as a fun detour, speaking directly to that audience.
THE OUTCOME
- Successfully aligned the 404 error experience with Western Digital’s new brand identity
- Improved the user journey by simplifying content and modernizing search functionality
